Ability Shetland held their third Parasport Festival and second Adult Sport Festival on Saturday the 30th of March.
Sporting governing bodies and clubs from across Shetland came together to deliver a range of different sports throughout the day.
The day began with Shetland Table Tennis Association providing everyone with opportunities to play and practice their different shots against each other and the robot.
After popular demand, kayaking returned for the third year in the Clickimin Pool. Scottish Canoe Association and Shetland Canoe Club provided everyone with the opportunity to get on a kayak. The postural support system, Aquabac, meant that anyone who needed postural support to sit and aid with balance in the kayak had that support. The club has recently applied for funding for the Aquabac and thanks to an anonymous donation, there is now funding for two Aquabacs which will be available on island for people to use.
In the afternoon, everyone moved into the main hall for more sporting activities. Scottish Basketball delivered the ever popular wheelchair basketball. They have been integral in developing the wheelchair basketball team in Shetland who are aiming to compete for the first time this year.
Badminton was next on the list for the Parasport Festival and all the children had excellent fun practicing their skills. Active schools provided different equipment so everyone could participate.
This year seen the introduction of two new sports. Delting FC came along to deliver football and showcase the activities they offer at their all ability football sessions that run in the term time. Shetland Netball also came along for the first time and everyone got an opportunity to play a big game of netball which was met with loads of laughs.
Ability Shetland would like to say a big thank you to their continued support from Scottish Disability Sport, all the volunteers and sport clubs who made this day happen.
